The 4th place vs 5th place game is always one of the most exciting matches of the playoff bracket. With a final score of 3-0, Chicago Chubs grabbed this W behind a hat trick from Curtis Wiese. This Will Get Messi were unable to get rolling in this game, and suffered a shutout. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt This Will Get Messi too much. There’s always next season. The win for Chicago Chubs meant a straight shot to semi-finals. They played this game immediately following the quarter-final game. The recap below tells you all about it.
Burton Birdwatchers (5-1-1) vs. Chicago Chubs (4-4) – Sunday, June 9, 2019
Heading into this Semi-Final games, Chicago Chubs were coming off their top offensive game of the season, scoring 5 goals last week. Additionally, they were the higher ranked #1 seed playing the #4 seed, Chicago Chubs. They just barely took the win to advance to the Championship Game by a score of 3-2 behind two goals from Thomas McBride and one from Jorge Galindez. This was one of two games for Chicago Chubs. If they had only this game, it might have been a different result, and they now sit in 4th place in the standings. Scott Nelson was the star player for Chicago Chubs this week. They scored all two goals for their team. Hopefully the loss doesn’t haunt Chicago Chubs too much. There’s always next season. They dominated in the regular season, and it’s no surprise Burton Birdwatchers advanced to the Championship game.
High School Heroes (5-2-1) vs. Game of Throw-Ins (1-6) – Sunday, June 9, 2019
High School Heroes, the #2 seed, played the #6 seed, Game of Throw-Ins in this Quarter-Final game. The last time these two teams met in week 1, High School Heroes won 3-1. The results were the same this time around, with two goals from Charles Dotson and one from Katie Rudzinski securing the win. This win advanced High School Heroes to semi-finals, which was played as a double header. In the loss, Game of Throw-Ins still had one goal from star player Hector Hernandez. The exciting recap of that game is below. Game of Throw-Ins had a difficult run this season, and they will not be advancing to the next round of playoffs.
High School Heroes (5-2-1) vs. Spoons FC (3-2-1) – Sunday, June 9, 2019
It was an exciting Semi-Final match-ups, in which the #2 seed, High School Heroes, squeaked by with a 1-point win against the #3 seed, Spoons FC with a final score of 1-0. Spoons FC were unable to get rolling in terms of scoring in this one, and came short of making it onto the scoreboard. Charles Dotson scored the winning goal for High School Heroes. On the bright side for Spoons FC, this loss means they can save their legs and recharge for next season. The exciting win for High School Heroes advanced them to the championship game.
